Bathroom Lighting Regulations
All installations must comply to guidelines which are based on a zonal concept similar to that used for the installation of lighting around swimming pool. Where "x " can be any value between 0 and 8
Each Zone rating (IP) is determined by the degree of risk of electric shock.
Zone 0 This is the area inside the bath or shower and is rated IPx7 minimum.
Zone 1 This is the area directly above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25 meters. This area is rated IPx4 minimum.
Zone 2 This an area 0.6 meters wide immediately next to and all around zone 1, including the area more than 2.25meters high directly over the shower or bath (Zone 1). Wash basins should also be treated as Zone 2. This area is rated IPx4 minimum. Also if water jets are likely to be used for cleaning purposes in either of Zones 1 or 2 then the rating in this area should be increased to IPx5
Zone 3 This is the area in the bathroom which is outside both Zone 1 and 2, there are no special requirements in this area unless water jets are likely to be used for cleaning purposes. In which case IPx5 would be required.
